Major equity indexes in the United States started the day flat as investors are waiting for fresh developments on the explosion that occurred in a busy bus hub during the rush hour in New York. 

Covering the incident, "one person was in custody. The suspect was wearing an explosive device and the police partially stripped him, said a senior city official who declined to be identified because of the continuing investigation. The suspect was in serious condition at Bellevue Hospital, a law enforcement official said," The NY Times recently reported.

The CBOE Volatility Index, Wall Street's fear gauge, rose more than 3% in the first trading hour of the session, pointing to a weakening market sentiment. As of writing, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 1.5, or 0.01%, at 24,330.65 and the S&P 500 was adding 2.75 points, or 0.1%, at 2,657.25. Boosted by a 0.2% rise seen in the S&P 500 Information Technology Sector (SPLRCT) The Nasdaq Composite was at 6,852.97, gaining 12.89 points, or 0.19%.
